How the Usability of a Pen-Tablet System Varies with Response Time Retardation

چکیده
To realize cloud computing (CC), virtualization technology has been accepted as an infrastructure of Electronic Patient Records (EPR). However, it has not been sufficiently done so far to evaluate the usability of Pen-Tablet Systems (PTS) as an input device of EPR with CC environments. From our preliminary studies, we confirmed that response time retardation, which virtualization technology inherently bears, would be an influencing factor for the usability. In this study we conducted usability questionnaires for subjects who were requested to use a drawing application that produced the pseudo retardation in order to measure an allowable range on the retardation for implementing PTS on EPR with CC environments. Usability of the PTS would drastically drop with increasing values of the scattering of delays exceeding 35 milliseconds. As a result, this study would provide useful measures for implementing PTS with CC technology.

The purpose of this study is to define the issues in evaluating the usability of pen-tablet systems (PTS) with server-based computing (SBC) in hospital settings. For five subjects with PTS operation, we measured the delay of drawing under SBC environments and compared it with the results of questionnaires from subjects. It was found that the relation of the usability with the drawing velocity a...
متن کاملA Ubiquitous, Pen-based and Touch Classroom Response System Supported by Learning Styles
The Active Learning Model (ALM) is an educational model which proposes that students should participate, along with the teacher, as direct agents of their own learning process. Computer systems created to implement and support the ALM through activities are known as Classroom Response Systems (CRS). The CRS, usually supported by traditional pen-based Tablet PCs, allow the teacher to propose act...
متن کاملEarly Sketch Processing with Application in HMM Based Sketch Recognition
Freehand sketching is a natural and crucial part of everyday human interaction, yet is almost totally unsupported by current user interfaces. With the increasing availability of tablet notebooks and pen based PDAs, sketch based interaction has gained attention as a natural interaction modality. We are working to combine the flexibility and ease of use of paper and pencil with the processing pow...
